Ramsgate Film Festival 2021

What a strange time we are all living in, and not least for me as I moved in the midst of both lockdowns to somewhere we had only visited once! But the sea air and bitingly cold sea swims have calmed any apprehension and I have finally began to settle into my life here in Ramsgate.

I am especially excited (so much so that i have written my first blog in….) as my recent film Freedom to Learn has been selected to show in the Ramsgate International Film Festival 2021.

It’s always exciting for a filmmaker who hasn’t been able to rely on a full crew, well, any crew, and all that brings to make a film. But as with Babyhood, the subject matter just appeared in front of me and I felt compelled to just try to make a film that would highlight a little of what i was seeing around me.

Education is a huge subject right now, from those taking GCSE’s after the pandemic, those going to university and getting into huge debt and not having met their teachers or even peers, to the little one’s being told not to touch anything without hand sanitiser nearby…

I hope that my film enables some thought and discussion around the new world we need to navigate that has been wholly shaken up and really does not need to go back to normal.

See you there…virtually!
